He was living in the parish of Allesley at the 1851 Census with his wife born around 1828 and their daughter Ellen Pinfold, born around 1850. (This Act is found further down.) He died aged 44 years in Fillongley, Warwickshire, and was buried on May 9th 1859.

His wife Jane Pinfold and children are found at the 1861 Census at Fillongley. (This Act is found further down.) She is deaf. Jane Smith married William Howe a widower in Fillongley May 21st 1865. (This Act is found further down.)

The Family of Thomas Pinfold

We have seen that Thomas Pinfold was baptized January 10th 1830 in Arley, Warwick. At the 1851 Census, he was working in Berskwell, Warrick, as a baker in a baking shop, probably as an apprentice. He married on 28th February 1856 at Barston, Warwickshire, Catherine Gardner. (This Banns are found further down.)

At the 1861 Census, we find that he is a baker in his own right. Catherine his wife was born around 1834. They have two children then, John Pinfold, 4 years old, and Catherine Pinfold, six months old. (This Act is found further down.)

At the 1871 Census, Thomas Pinfold is a baker and grocer. We find the two children above mentioned as well as William Pinfold, 8 years old. They also have a visitor, Ann Gardner, a visitor and a farmer's wife. She must have been the wife of a brother of Catherine as it was her maiden name. (This Act is found further down.) Only their youngest child was home at the 1881 Census: William Pinfold is 18 years old and a coal dealer. (This Act is found further down.) He is still at home in 1891 and is a Grazier. (This Act is found further down.) Neither parents are found at the 1901 Census.

So Thomas Pinfold and Catherine Gardner had three children in all:

  1. John Gardner Pinfold, born around 1857. At the 1881 Census, we find him a publican, married with a daughter and a son: Margaret Ann Pinfold, 2 years old, and Frederick William Pinfold, 11 months. (This Act is found further down.) John Gardner Pinfold married in the third Quarter of 1876 in Stoke when aged 19 years Eliza Eleanor Oughton, born in 1854, daughter of William Oughton. By the 1891 Census, they had two more children: Herbert John Pinfold, 6 years old, and Ethel Mary Pinfold, 5 years old. (This Act is found further down.) They moved from Stoke to Coventry between the 1891 and 1901 Census. They are living at 5 King Edward Road in Coventry at the 1911 Census. We find out that they had six children in all, but only four survived to be found on the various censuses. (This Act is found further down.)

John Gardner Pinfold and Eliza Eleanor Oughton had four children who survived infancy in all:

    1. Margaret Ann Pinfold, born around 1879. She was a watchmaker and living at home at the 1901 Census. She is not found living at home at the 1911 Census.
    2. Frederick William Pinfold, born around 1880. He was not living at home at the 1901 Census. He was single, a machinist, and back at home at the 1911 Census.
    3. Herbert John Pinfold, born around 1883. He was a Cycle Machinist and living at home at the 1901 Census. He was single, a machinist, and back at home at the 1911 Census.
    4. Ethel Mary Pinfold, born around 1886. She was a "book domestic" living at home at the 1901 Census. She is not found living at home at the 1911 Census.

  2. Catherine Pinfold, born around 1860. She was living at home at the 1881 Census as we have seen.

  3. William Pinfold, born around 1862. He was still living with his parents at the 1881 and 1891 Census as we have seen.
