The Parents of Selina Smith

The Parents and Grand-Parents of Selina Jane Smith

At the 1861 Census, we find that William Smith, 47 years of age and so born around 1814, from Stafford, Staffordshire, was a general labourer in the municipal ward of Hampton in Birmingham and in the Ecclesiastical District of Saint Mathias. (This Act is found further down.) His wife Hannah Smith was 39 years of age and so born around 1822, from Sutton, Warwickshire. They had then at home 7 children:

  1. Isaac Smith, who was 15 years of age and so born around 1846. He was a glass cutter, born in Stafford, Staffordshire.
  2. Susannah Smith, who was 13 years old and so born around 1848. She was a Silver Burnisher, born in Stafford.
  3. Howard Smith, 9 years old and so born around 1852, born in Birmingham, Warwickshire,
  4. Selina Smith, 7 years old and so born around 1854, again in Birmingham.
  5. Charles Smith, 5 years old and so born around 1856, again in Birmingham.
  6. Francis Smith, 2 years old and so born around 1859, again in Birmingham;
  7. Alfred Smith, 1 month old and so born in 1861, again in Birmingham.

At the 1851 Census, we find the family living in the Parish of Saint Mary's in the Borough of Stafford, Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.) William Smith was 38 years of age and so born around 1813, from Haywood, Stafford, Staffordshire. He was a agricultural labourer. His wife Hannah Smith was 30 years of age and so born around 1821, from Sutton Colfield, Warwickshire. They had then at home 3 children and a lodger:

  1. Isaac Smith, who was 6 years of age and so born around 1845. He was born in Stafford, Staffordshire.
  2. Susannah Smith, who was 4 years old and so born around 1847. She was also born in Stafford.
  3. William Smith, 2 years old and so born around 1849. He was also born in Stafford.
  4. Joseph Bater, who was a lodger. He was an unmarried agricultural labourer, 65 years old and so born around 1786, again in Stafford.

We find that William Smith, son of Thomas Smith, married on the 27th December 1843 in Parish of Castle Church in the district of Stafford Hannah Cooper, daughter of Thomas Cooper. (This Act is found further down.)

At the 1871 Census, we find that Selina Smith living as part of Edward Gilbert's household in Edgebaston, Birmingham. She is unmarried, 17 years old and so born around 1854, and from Birmingham, Warwickshire. She is said to be a nurse, one of three domestic servants: the others are a housemaid and a cook. (This Act is found further down.)

Selina Smith was born in the 2nd quarter of 1853 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. Her mother's maiden name was Cooper. A copy of the Act is unfortunately not available.

Thomas Smith was baptized on 25th December 1766 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. His parents were Thomas Smith and Hannah Smith.

Thomas Smith married on 24th February 1794 Susannah Holdern. They were both from Norton, Stoke on Trent, St Peter Ad Vincula, Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.)

William Smith, son of Thomas Smith and Suzannah Smith, was born on 30th September 1812 and baptized on 5th November 1812 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.) Selina Jane Smith, daughter of William Smith, aged 20, married on March 9th 1874 in Birmingham Henry Pinfield, born in 1851, son of John Pinfield. A copy of the Act is unfortunately not available.



The Family of Thomas Smith and Suzannah Holdern, Grand-Parents of Selina Smith

Thomas Smith and Suzannah Holdern married 24th February 1794 at the Parish of Norton in the Rectory of Stoke, Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.)

Among their children, we find:

  1. Sarah Smith, was born on July 22nd 1806 and baptized on August 30th, 1806 in West Bromwich Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.)
  2. William Smith, was born on September 30th 1812 and baptized on November 5th, 1812 in West Bromwich Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.)
  3. Hannah Smith, was born on October 4th 1814 and baptized on November 1st, 1814 in West Bromwich Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.)
  4. Elizabeth Smith, was born on March 18th 1820 and baptized on April 10th, 1820 in West Bromwich Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.)



The Family of William Smith and Hannah Cooper, Parents of Selina Smith

William Smith was the son of Thomas Smith and Suzannah Holdern. He was born on September 30th 1812 and baptized on November 5th, 1812 in West Bromwich Staffordshire. (This Act is found further down.) He married in the Parish of Castle Church on December 27th 1843 Hannah Cooper. (This Act is found further down.) She was the daughter of Thomas Cooper.

Hannah Cooper and William Smith had eight (?) known children:

  1. Isaac Smith, born in the second quarter of 1845 in Stafford, Staffordshire. The maiden name of the mother is Cooper. Unfortunately the Act is not available. He married on 28th September 1864 in the Parish of All Saints, Birmingham, Warwick, Eliza Jane Jarvis, daughter of William Jarvis. (This Act is found further down.)
  2. Suzannah Smith, born in the second quarter of 1847 in Stafford, Staffordshire. The maiden name of the mother is Cooper. Unfortunately the Act is not available. She married on April 1st 1866 Samuel Lees, son of Charles Lees in the District of Saint Mark, Birmingham. (This Act is found further down.)
  3. William Smith, born in the first quarter of 1849 in Stafford, Staffordshire. The maiden name of the mother is Cooper. Unfortunately the Act is not available. He was dead before the 1861 Census as he is not there.
  4. Howard Smith, born in the fourth quarter of 1851 in Stafford, Staffordshire. The maiden name of the mother is Cooper. Unfortunately the Act is not available.
  5. Selina Smith, born in the second quarter of 1853 in Birmingham. The maiden name of the mother is Cooper. Unfortunately the Act is not available.
  6. Charles Smith, born in the fourth quarter of 1855 in Birmingham. The maiden name of the mother is Cooper. Unfortunately the Act is not available. He married on October 12th 1878 at the Parish Church of Bidford Warricks Mary Martha James, daughter of William James. (This Act is found further down.)
  7. Francis William Smith, born in the third quarter of 1858 in Birmingham. The maiden name of the mother is Cooper. Unfortunately the Act is not available.
  8. Alfred Smith, born in the first quarter of 1861 in Birmingham. The maiden name of the mother is Emily Hesterton??, daughter of Norma Hesterton at Christ Church in the Parish of Sparkbrook, Warwicks. (This Act is found further down.)
