The Family of Patrick Keoughan, Pionneer
N. B. The text in ORANGE is from Derek or/and John Keoughan's works found on Ancestry, and I intend to verify it.



The family of Patrick Keoughan, born and married in Ireland, Margaret Keoughan's Paternal Great-Great-Grand-Parents

Patrick Keoughan, pionneer, was born around the year 1798 according to the 1851 Census for Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick. (This act is found further on.) (Patrick Keoughan born in Kilkenny, Ireland; he died 11 September 1877 in Chatham.)

Again according to the 1851 Census, he had arrived in New Brunswick in 1836. He had married before 1825 someone whose Christian name was Mary, born around 1801 (Mary Ann Casey was born in 1801 in Cork, County Cork, Ireland. She died in 1875 in Chatham, New Brunswick. ).

Still according to the 1851 Census, their son James, born around 1825, their daughter Aurora, born around 1828, and their son Martin, born around 1833, all immigrated to New Brunswick in 1836.

Their sons John, Patrick and Michael were born in Chatham respectively around 1838, 1840 and 1842.

It follows from that Census that Patrick and Mary had six children living at home at the 1851 Census and one was a living in maid. Two more children are given by Derek Keoughan; those are found in ORANGE and in parenthesis:

  1. (Mary Keoughan was born in Prince Edward Island according to Dereck and Newfoundland according to John around 1824; she married John Lahey before 1851; she died in Chatham, New Brunswick, in 1891.)

  2. James Keoughan, pionneer, was born around 1825 according to the 1851 Census. He was a laborer in 1851 at Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick, living with his parents. (He was born in 1825 Prince Edward Island. )

  3. Anora (Honora) Keoughan, pionneer, was born around 1828 according to the 1851 Census. She was living with her parents in 1851 at Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick. (She was born in 1828 in Cork, County Cork, Ireland. She died in 1880 in Chatham, NB. )

  4. Martin Keoughan, pionneer, was born around 1833 according to the 1851 Census. He was a laborer in 1851 at Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick, living with his parents. (Martin was born in 1833 in Prince Edward Island; he died in Mobile, Alabama, on January 13, 1885.)

  5. Anne Keoughan, pionneer, was born around 1835 according to the 1851 Census. At this Census, she was a living maid in Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick. (This act is found further on.) (Anne Keoughan (Quinn) was born in Prince Edward Island in 1835; she married in Chatham, New Brunswick, on June 24, 1863; she died on February 12th, 1872 in Boston, Mass.)

  6. (Johanna (Hannah) was born on August 1, 1837, in Chatham, New Brunswick. She married John McClaverty in Boston, Mass. on June 14, 1868. She died on August 8th, 1898, in Malden, Mass.)

  7. John Keoughan was born in New Brunswick around 1838 according to the 1851 Census. He was living with his parents in 1851 at Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick. (John was born on June 19, 1841, in Chatham, NB. He died on May 23, 1913, in Millbank, New Brunswick.)

  8. Patrick Keoughan was born in New Brunswick around 1840 according to the 1851 Census. He was baptized on March 31 1839 when he was 5 weeks old. (This act is found further on.) He was living with his parents in 1851 at Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick. He married Margaret Kearney (Carney) For their family, press HERE. (Patrick was born on February 27th, 1839, in Chatham, New Brunswick. He had 15 children in 27 years with Margaret Carney. He died there on May 23, 1913. )

  9. Michael Keoughan was born in New Brunswick around 1842 according to the 1851 Census. He was living with his parents in 1851 at Chatham, Northumberland, New Brunswick. (Michael L. was born on March 25, 1842, in Chatham, New Brunswick. He married Mary Delahanty on September 1877 in Chatham and he died there on April 10th, 1914.)

The Family of Patrick Keoughan and Margaret Carney: Patrick Keoughan was born in Chatham in 1840, the son of Patrick and Mary Keoughan born in Ireland around 1798 and 1801 respectively. The Family of William Keoughan and Susan Currie: William Keoughan was born on July 4 1872, the son of son of Patrick Keoughan and Margaret Carney. He married at Chatham on November 17 1898 Suzan Currie, daughter of Thomas Currie and Alice Crane and died on September 5 1936. Some of their children: 1. William Alexander Keoughan was born February 16 1899 in Chatham, N. B. He married at Saint Michael's Cathedral, Chatham, on 16th October 1922 Rosella McCarthy, daughter of Joseph McCarthy and Rose Langier? 2. Richard Keoughan was born November 13 1900 in Chatham, N.
