Benjamin Anderson

Benjamin Anderson, second husband of Mary Ann Roberts

We found that Benjamin Anderson, who became Mary Ann Roberts's second husband, was 69 years old at the 1891 Census, and was born in Plymouth, Devon. He would thus have been born there around 1822. There seems to have been two Benjamin Anderson who were born in Plymouth around that time.

First there is the son of Samuel Anderson, a mariner, and his wife Mary who was baptized on the 14th September 1821; then there is a John Benjamin Anderson the son of Benjamin Anderson, carpenter, and his wife Margaret who was baptized on September 15th 1822. Both were baptized in the Parish of Charles, Plymouth. We will assume here that our Benjamin Anderson is the son of the Samuel Anderson.

Samuel Anderson and his wife Mary Edwards were married in Stoke Damerel on 30th April 1808. (A Copy of this Act is found further down.) They seem to have had 5 children:

  1. Jane Grace Anderson was baptized on 17th July 1814 at the Parish of Charles Plymouth (A Copy of this Act is found further down.). She was buried on the 27th August 1814 à St Andrew, Plymouth. (A Copy of this Act is found further down.)

  2. Jane Grace Anderson was baptized on 25th February 1816 at Charles, Plymouth. (A Copy of this Act is found further down.) She married at Stoke Damerel, Devon, on 19th December 1836, William Fitzgerald Horswell. She died in the second quarter of 1861 in Plymouth, Devon, leaving behind six children.

  3. Samuel Robert Anderson was baptized on 10th December 1819 at the Parish of Charles, Plymouth. (A Copy of this Act is found further down.) He married Emma Bond in the 2nd quarter of 1849 in the district of Lambeth in the county of London. They has a son Samuel Anderson born in Lambeth, London, in the 1st quarter of 1850. They had another son called Benjamin Anderson born in the 4th quarter on 1852 in Newington, London. (The mother's maiden name was given and it is the one here.) (A Copy of their Entry in the 1851 Census and in the 1861 Census are found further down.)

  4. Benjamin Anderson was baptized on the 14th September 1821 at the Parish of Charles, Plymouth. (A Copy of this Act is found further down.) He was a merchant seaman. He married Mary Goves in the second quarter of 1882 in Newton Abbot. For the Family of Mary Goves, press HERE. (A Copy of their Entry in the 1861 Census and in the 1871 Census and 1891 Census are found further down.)

  5. Ebenezer Anderson was baptized on the 8th December 1826 at the Parish of Charles, Plymouth. (A Copy of this Act is found further down.) He married Grace Stephens in the 4th Quarter of 1848 in Plymouth. (A Copy of their Entry in the 1851 Census and in the 1861 Census and 1871 Census are found further down.)

His father's christina name was William and his mother's, Sarah Jemima was the oldest of the three beautiful daughters of Job, named in the Bible as given to him in the later part of his life, after God made Job prosperous again. Jemima's sisters are named as Keziah and Keren-Happuch. Job's sons, in contrast, are not named. Triphena:vulnerable, soft Trifosa: "She who delights in God": from Old Greek! total and utter nonsense!
